Frustrations with Disqus and openID
Over the weekend, I started to look into Disqus.com, which is a commenting system for sites which supports openID. Unfortunately I have yet to be able to sign up with them as I do not want to create yet another new account with a service. They support multiple openID providers, such as wordress.com, which I already have an account for. This should be easy, right?
Oh, Look! They support openID!
Great, I already HAVE a login for wordpress!
Okay, so I have to sign into Wordpress...
No, big deal, right?
But, Alas...
Note:
I already AM signed in. This is frustrating. I am not sure if it is a problem on Wordpress's side or disqus' side, but I refuse to set up an account directly if they claim to support openID.
I have only tried this through firefox, but on two separate machines.
Is anyone listening?
So I click the prompt from wordpress...
that says "Now that you are signed in, you can continue signing in to http://disqus.com/ with your OpenID." and it sends me back to the page above.
Oh HAI, infinite loop!
My guess is...
that this is more of an issue with Disqus.com, since Gravatar recognizes when I am logged into wordpress.com and when I'm not.
I'd love to test out Disqus.com, but refuse to set up a new account for yet another service. Don't get me started about myvidoop.com, which is an OpenID provider, yet they don't ACCEPT OpenID to sign up. Seem like a giant contradiction, if you ask me.

Hi Haveboard,Immad from Clickpass. I have been checking out your concern, and I am having the same problem. It seems to be an issue with wordpress.com. When I try to log in to http://ma.gnolia.com/ or simonwillison.net with my wordpress.com OpenID which I assume is immad.wordpress.com i get the same problem. We will probably be removing wordpress.com from that list unless we can come to the bottom of the issue. Do you see your wordpress.com OpenID working in other places? What is your wordpress.com OpenID?Thanks for pointing this out, apologies for causing the inconvenience. In the meantime you could try another OpenID provider or click on the Clickpass button which should be painless.Immad

Also gravatar is owned by the same people that run wordpress.com (Automattic) and does not appear to be doing OpenID authentication between the sites.

After a little persistence, I figured out why wordpress wouldn't allow me use them with openid. I needed to have a blog actually set up with wordpress.com before the openid worked. seems weird that my account alone didn't satisfy the openid setup, but alas, I have successfully created an account with disqus using openid.
