Sun buys MySQL AB
Animals in your logo is the new hotness
For those of you not into the website geekery this means that the people who make Java bought the free open source database software company that makes the MySQL Database.
News taken from here. It seems that Sun has bought the popular database software for $1 Billion, this can either be good or bad. Here are my thoughts:
1. Putting $1 billion behind the M in "LAMP" could possibly make this already widely used software the best thing since sliced bread. On the flip side, all that money could go to their heads and make the product suck....kinda like Microsoft.
2. Just about everyone uses MySQL these days for database driven web development, such as Facebook and Google. But traditional enterprises and banks are still wary of having a free open source database on their intranet and rightly so. With Sun taking over the company and investing all that money and saying that they will be providing support and management for this type of situation I think that will attract even more people to use the software.
3. Oh how I wish I had stock in either of these companies.
